Welcome to Hollywood!
About Us
Hollywood Lutheran Church has been a historic presence in this community, dating from the days of silent films in Hollywood. Organized in 1921, the charter members purchased land at Sunset near Van Ness at what later became the Warner Bros. Studios in Hollywood. When it became clear that one block wasn't big enough for both Warner Bros. and Hollywood Lutheran Church, a "Hollywood deal" was struck: we moved! In 1924, we established our present location on the Los Feliz end of Hollywood, next to a small theatre owned by Mae West. The Sanctuary was beautifully furnished in part through a generous gift from Warner Bros.
We are still an active Christian congregation with a significant role to play in our community (not a bit part), because we're making a difference in people's lives. We sponsor the Los Feliz Art Walk, a Community Food Pantry, a Community Garden, and Hollywood CallBack. We also host the Silverlake Children's Theatre Group, three guest congregations, and numerous 12-step recovery meetings.
